Havre began as a railroad siding and then became populated by settlers from Fort Assinniboine, as well as by homesteaders enticed by Hill who recruited in Europe, the Orient and the eastern United States.

The Railroad Museum has a brief history of the railroad, a relay office recreation,
hands on reference library, original hand push carts, working block signal,
complete model railroad and a gift shop. Hours: Summer: 9am-5pm – Sunday-Saturday
